#68 Cherry Almond Bread Pudding (via JoeFoodie)
A carryout from Jumps Restaurant in Grosse Pointe, this bread pudding had an intense almond flavor.  Perfectly sweet with a touch of tartness from the dried cherries, this was a truly luscious dessert. Rich, but not heavy.  The vanilla creme anglaise added an eggy/creamy dimension.  A really nice dessert.

A treat from QQ Bakery in Madison Heights, MI.  A little dry for my taste, but the coconut flavor was undeniable.  Also, the burnt bits on top add an interesting layer to the sweet tart.

#66 Trader Joe’s Mango on Sticky Rice (via JoeFoodie)
On the recommendation of my friend @wattyz, I’ve been on the lookout for this traditional Thai dessert.  It just so happened that Trader Joe’s started carrying it in the frozen section this week.
A tremendously interesting dessert - sweet tropical mango, salty & creamy sticky rice with coconut milk, and crunchy (pretty much flavorless) mung beans all come together perfectly.  A special treat indeed & one that I’ll be revisiting very soon.

#65 Chili Fries (via JoeFoodie)
Michigan (especially near Detroit) is known for their “coney islands,” diners that specialize in serving quick food usually of a deep fried nature with menus items like casing hot dogs in a steamed bun with chili sauce, mustard, & onions on top.    That chili is also pretty awesome on fries, especially after a night of partying.
This plate of chili fries is from Duly’s Place in Detroit.

#64 Carrot Cake (via JoeFoodie)
I could eat carrot cake everyday.  Cinnamon & nutmeg are such comforting flavors for me.  When made properly, this is a tremendously moist & luscious cake with chewy bits of carrot-y goodness.  This version has a orange glaze, which matched perfectly with the spiciness of the cake.

#63 Margherita Pizza (via JoeFoodie)
The oven at Crust in Rochester Hills, MI burns at a temperature above 800 degrees fahrenheit. However, the crust was not as crisp I would’ve thought.  Under the weight of the very fresh tasting tomatoes, the creamy cheese, and tender basil, I think the crust just gave way.  Regardless, this was a delicious pizza - simple & well prepared.

#61 Beef Pad Ped (via JoeFoodie)
Thai Orchid, one of my favorite Thai restaurants, is found in downtown Mt. Clemens.  Beef Pad Ped is a red curry dish. Coconut milk is the foundation of the luscious sauce.  Red & green peppers, onions, mushrooms, and eggplant are all very fresh.  The peppers give crunch and the mushrooms/eggplant offer earthiness.  The beef is OK, but not essential.  The sauce & veggies make this dish.

#60 Gyros (via JoeFoodie)
While not the most photogenic sandwich, the gyro is one of my favorites.  Ground beef & lamb that has been spiced well & grilled coupled with tomatoes, onions, & tzatziki sauce.  Tzatziki (cucumber yogurt sauce) is one of my favorite condiments - cool, refreshing, garlicky, & minty. The gyros is a perfect combination of flavors.

#59 Fried potatoes with black beans, scrambled eggs, & fresh jalapeno (via JoeFoodie)
Cooked in cast iron skillet, fried potatoes taste especially delicious.  4 organic potatoes (diced), 1 organic onion (diced), 1 clove of garlic (diced), shredded cheddar cheese, sea salt, cracked black pepper, & cumin.  Extra virgin olive oil & butter for the skillet.
Potatoes into the skillet first, onions & garlic after. Season liberally with sea salt, cracked black pepper, cumin.  Cook until tender & a nice golden brown crust has formed on the potatoes.  Add a can of black beans. Cover the potatoes & beans with shredded cheddar cheese & put under the broiler until bubbly. Top with your favorite style of egg, sour cream, & fresh jalapeno (if you like the heat).
